Grounding

Have you heard of grounding? It is also called earthing. The premise is that by walking barefoot in nature, you allow the energy from the earth to flow into your body. The benefits are claimed to include reducing inflammation and pain, decreasing stress and anxiety, and improving sleep and healing.

I cannot comment on the effectiveness of physical grounding, but I can tell you God is interested in our spiritual grounding. Let’s look at some scriptures.

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Ephesians 3:14-19 (ESV)

Grounding ourselves in God’s love, we are filled with the fullness of God, through the power of his Spirit and the indwelling of Christ. Unlike physical grounding where we connect on the surface, spiritual grounding is immersive. We become rooted in his love. Just as plants draw up nutrients from the soil through their roots, love nourishes our spirit. Jesus explains it as a branch that draws life from the vine, and concludes with this scripture:

As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love.

John 15:9 (ESV)

We abide, dwell, or remain in Christ. We draw from the fullness of God by being rooted in the fertile ground of his love. This results in a joyful, fruitful, and fulfilling life.

I say it’s time to kick off our shoes.

Grace & Peace,

Sandy
