When I tune into God’s heart in prayer, he often uses pictures or words in my mind to illustrate a deeply layered message. Just like the adage: a picture is worth a thousand words, so these visions can convey more each time I contemplate it’s meaning.
The vision I want to share was given during prayer with a group of ladies. One of the ladies was giving words, while the rest of us were praying.
The picture started with me sitting in a river and I recalled the imagery from my early charismatic days of soaking in the river. The river was symbolic of the flowing movement of the Holy Spirit. Next, I saw the heavens open and the clouds parting, revealing Jesus leaning forward, light shining behind him and his hands cupped in front of him. As he spoke, written words tumbled from his mouth into his hands and as they overflowed his hands they transformed into water falling down on me in the river. I felt the invitation was for me and for anyone willing to come into the river. As I sat deeper into the vision I recalled the words of scripture about being washed by the water of his word.
For Christ died for us, sacrificing himself to make us holy and pure, cleansing us through the showering of the pure water of the Word of God.
Ephesians 5:25b-26 TPT
Gazing deeper, I saw the words of his mouth as the Word of God. Scripture tells us His Word is alive and active (Hebrews 4:12). In my vision the water is the Word flowing as the Holy Spirit. For Jesus poured out His life that we might receive the Holy Spirit. Can you see layer upon layer of symbolism?
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, flowing with water clear as crystal, continuously pouring out from the throne of God and of the Lamb.
Revelation 22:1 TPT
You can be clean. You can soak in this river. An invitation has been issued.
It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life.
Revelation 21:6 NLT
I will soak up His Word. I will enter the flow and follow where it leads. I will let Him be alive and active surrendering to His cleansing. And I will be brave and ask others to join me. Will you?
