Trick or Treat: Part Two

You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.

Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭9‬-‭11‬ ‭NLT

You may be familiar with a certain cartoon character who finds, while his friends receive treats in their bags, he finds a rock time and time again. Each dashed hope, each shattered expectation, chips away at his self-esteem.

The truth is, if we place our expectations on what other people can give us, even if they have the best intentions, sooner or later we will be disappointed.

The same is not true with God. What he gives us is always good. He doesn’t hesitate in his giving or base his gifts on how valuable we feel we are. We can come with confidence, asking for his gifts, knowing there are no tricks, just treats.

Grace & Peace,

Sandy
