Choices of Direction

How do you choose?

Do you see my fingers frozen over the keypad? That’s because when faced with so many directions to choose from, I have difficulty making up my mind.

For instance, I went to the RealmMakers Conference & Expo this weekend. The schedule was packed with so many options. Choosing one direction was nearly impossible for me. I wanted to go to so many different offerings that I missed out on opportunities to talk to some of the authors at their tables in the expo. The classes will continue to be available on replay, so I haven’t completely missed out, and I learned a lot from the classes I did attend.

Now I have the next conundrum. What’s next? What direction do I take? How do I incorporate the information I’ve learned? What information do I set aside?

Let me ask again — How do you choose?

Do you follow your gut? Or do you follow God? Maybe a combination? And how do you tell the difference? If knowing God’s will was easy, we’d all be doing it. I have some scriptures floating around in my jet-lagged brain. Let me see if I can retrieve them.

And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.‬‬

Jeremiah‬ ‭29‬:‭13‬ ‭NKJV

If I want to know what direction God wants me to take, I have to do the seeking. And it’s not just flippantly sending up a prayer, it’s a full commitment on my part.

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.‬‬

Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬ ‭NLT

I need to think differently about my choices. Am I allowing peer pressure or a desire to gain the approval of others lead my decisions? There is an order to things. Number one, love God and seek his kingdom. Number two, love others and all the rest falls into place.

Even though the Lord may allow you to go through a season of hardship and difficulty, he himself will be there with you. He will not hide himself from you, for your eyes will constantly see him as your Teacher. When you turn to the right or turn to the left, you will hear his voice behind you to guide you, saying, “This is the right path; follow it.”

Isaiah‬ ‭30‬:‭20‬-‭21‬ ‭TPT‬‬

These words tell me it is possible to know the direction to follow. But is this only for big choices? Big decisions? Or should this be the way of things? As I grow closer in my relationship with God, will choosing what God would choose for me become second nature?

There will never be a time when I don’t need God’s direction, but there will be times when I don’t seek his will, blundering on in my own decisions. For that I am grateful for his grace and sovereignty.

Grace & Peace,

Sandy
