He must increase, but I must decrease.John 3:30 (ESV)
The disciples bickered over which one of them would be considered the greatest in the kingdom. Jesus interrupted their argument, saying, “The kings and men of authority in this world rule oppressively over their subjects, claiming that they do it for the good of the people. They are obsessed with how others see them. But this is not your calling. You will lead by a different model. The greatest one among you will live as one called to serve others without honor. The greatest honor and authority is reserved for the one who has a servant heart.”Luke 22:24-26 (TPT)
In the Kingdom of God, many things seem counterintuitive. Greatness is one of those things. If I wish to be greater in God’s Kingdom, I need to learn to be humble and to serve others. When I decrease (my desire to be seen, my pride), he increases (God is glorified).
Switch my thinking.
Instead of self-promotion,
Help me find a need I can fill.
Grow in me a servant’s heart.
