When darkness veils His lovely face,
My Hope is Built On Nothing Less (On Christ the Solid Rock) Edward Mote
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.
Laying awake in the dark of the morning, my thoughts a storm in my head, I felt beaten, giving in to the negativity. I tried to order my thoughts away from my darkness, my failures, my flaws, my critical disposition, but wave upon wave crashed over me. I tried to find the light of the Spirit, to hear his voice. Tenaciously I kept seeking, kept listening, even while treading in the dark waters, until the words of this hymn (above) came to me. Darkness may come, will come, but I am anchored to Jesus, I stand on solid rock.
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.”
Matthew 7:24-25 (ESV)
I often wish I didn’t need to combat my negative thoughts, that my life would be all roses and sunshine, but real life is full of the good and the bad. So I hold on to my hope and anchor myself in God’s love.
Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.
Hebrews 10:23 (NLT)
