So the Lord answers, “Can a woman forget her own baby and not love the child she bore? Even if a mother should forget her child, I will never forget you.”
Isaiah 49:15 GNT
This weekend was spent with some of my kids and grandkids. Time spent with family is time I treasure, but since moving to the coast, these times have been farther between. Trying to get everyone together gets harder and harder as my children have families and other commitments of their own.
So instead of writing my blog, I chose to spend the day with family, but I wanted to honor my new commitment to write on Sunday. What better topic than family? Here are some scriptures that came to mind.
While he was still speaking to the people, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him. But he replied to the man who told him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
Matthew 12:46, 48-50 ESV
God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.
Ephesians 1:5 NLT
For he knew all about us before we were born and he destined us from the beginning to share the likeness of his Son. This means the Son is the oldest among a vast family of brothers and sisters who will become just like him.
Romans 8:29 TPT
And you did not receive the “spirit of religious duty,” leading you back into the fear of never being good enough. But you have received the “Spirit of full acceptance,” enfolding you into the family of God. And you will never feel orphaned, for as he rises up within us, our spirits join him in saying the words of tender affection, “Beloved Father!” For the Holy Spirit makes God’s fatherhood real to us as he whispers into our innermost being, “You are God’s beloved child!”
Romans 8:15-16 TPT
Not every earthly family is full of good relationships, not every family evokes good memories, but there is a God in heaven that desires to be our Father. I love the times I spend with Him and some day I’ll get to go to His house, where my room is waiting. Will you be just down the hall?
Grace & Peace,
Sandy
