Listen to the Words: Ears to Hear

Do you ever find yourself singing along to a song without hearing the words? Jesus exhorts—“Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand!” (Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭15‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

So, my inspiration for this post came from a song on the radio, that when I listened, touched on some amazing scriptures. Please take 10 minutes and listen to the song, God Problems, Maverick City Music with Chandler Moore and Naomi Raine.

The first scripture:

Then he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.”

Zechariah‬ ‭4‬:‭6‬ ‭ESV

This is God’s assurance that what can’t be accomplished by our own strength, He can make happen. Reaffirmed by this next reference.

Jahaziel said, “Listen to me King Jehoshaphat and everyone living in Judah and Jerusalem! The Lord says this to you: ‘Don’t be afraid or worry about this large army, because the battle is not your battle. It is God’s battle!’”

2 Chronicles‬ ‭20‬:‭15‬ ‭ERV‬‬

These verses encourage us to trust God when the situation we are facing seem too big for us.

The song goes on to call God as a fortress, a refuge, a helper, a defender, and a strong tower. The Bible describes God as a fortress, 21 times; a refuge, 36 times; a helper, 35 times; and a defender, 6 times. Because strong tower is sometimes translated into fortress or stronghold it was harder to find a count, but here are two verses.

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.

Proverbs‬ ‭18‬:‭10‬ ‭ESV

for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy.

Psalm‬ ‭61‬:‭3‬ ‭ESV‬‬

God protects us. He keeps us safe from our enemies.

The next reference I want to look at is this:

No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn…

Isaiah‬ ‭54‬:‭17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

This includes physical weapons, demonic weapons, and verbal weapons. It doesn’t mean they won’t hurt or do damage, but they won’t take away our victory.

One more reference to scripture is calling God a hiding place.

You are my hiding place; You, Lord, protect me from trouble; You surround me with songs and shouts of deliverance. Selah.

Psalms‬ ‭32‬:‭7‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Sometimes we hide away in safety and sometimes we march against the enemy with our voices lifted in praise. God will show us the way when we have ears to hear.

I found this song firmly secured in scriptures that give hope and assurance that God is trustworthy and He has the victory in hand. You can study spiritual warfare in scripture—there are many helpful tips—but they all point back to God. He is the one who fights on our behalf. He is the one who overcomes. He is the one who triumphs.

Grace & Peace,

Sandy
