I’m starting to listen what my word for next year will be and the first contender that came to mind was the word: written.
The scriptures that came with it are as follows:
See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands…
Isaiah 49:16 NLT
(Some translations say engraved or transcribed.)
…I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Jeremiah 31:33 ESV Also Hebrews 10:16
These two verses bring me a feeling of security. Isaiah 49:15 tells us just as a mother won’t forget her child, God doesn’t forget us. The Amplified Bible further defines the inscription as a picture of us. Think of it—God has a tattoo of you on His palm. Amazing!
Before I get any criticism, I will point out both these scriptures are written to the Hebrews. But in my defense, we are all one in Christ Jesus.
The Jeremiah passage goes on to say we will no longer need to teach each other to know the Lord because we will all know Him and our sins will be forgiven. This is the new covenant we have through Christ. When we believed in Jesus, we received the Holy Spirit and were sealed for redemption (Ephesians 4:30). It is the Holy Spirit that calls to mind the words of Christ (John 14:26).
To me this is how God writes on our hearts. It is by the Holy Spirit within us that we know and are known by God. And that is comforting, warm, secure, and safe.
Grace & Peace,
Sandy
