Onto the Back Burner

Last week I wrote about not quitting, that when you face disappointment or difficulty you don’t let it stop you. But what about the times you are overwhelmed?

There is a difference between quitting and putting something onto the back burner for a time. Right now I am taking care of my husband who had a total knee replacement right at the beginning of our Sweet Adelines Christmas performance season. I had to make a conscious decision to set aside my novel writing. I have to remind myself I am not giving up I am just taking a much needed break. Let’s look at God’s thoughts on taking a break.

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

Psalms‬ ‭23‬:‭2‬-‭3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

It is difficult for us to take a break, because our lives are so busy. Sometimes, God has to make us rest.

We have a tendency to keep going and add more things until we are weighed down. Jesus, understanding our nature, tells us, “Come on over here and let me help you. Let me teach you a better way.”

Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭29‬ ‭NLT‬‬

And when we come, finally we can let go. We can breathe.

I wonder what He is teaching? I believe it includes listening for His whispers, prioritizing my undertakings, and balancing busyness with rest.

Is there something in your life that needs to be moved to the back burner for a time? It’s okay to let go. God will give you rest and when it’s time, He’ll bring it back to the front.

Grace & Peace,

Sandy
