Love Stories

I read a lot of stories and my favorites are always love stories. I know I’m not alone in this. Have you ever wondered why romance novels are so popular? I may have an idea.

Have you ever heard the phrase “the greatest story ever told”? It’s actually the title of a movie, filmed in 1965, based on the life of Jesus, and I agree with that statement. Maybe you’ve also heard of the Bible referred to as God’s love letter written to us. And do you know what the most quoted scripture is?

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Inside each of us is a great desire to be loved and right alongside that desire is the thought that we are unlovable. Look at any fairytale to see this concept played out; Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, The Ugly Duckling, Shrek, to name a few. We want the knight-in-shining-armor to rescue us from the dragon, we want the princess to rescue us from the curse. That is what makes Jesus life the greatest story ever told. He comes to our rescue loving us even when we were sitting in the dust like Cinderella or still a beast like the prince.

The song, Came to My Rescue, filled my mind as I thought about the love of Christ and my love of love stories. As well as these next scriptures.

For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.

Luke‬ ‭19‬:‭10‬ ‭NLT

God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

In this Christmas season won’t you allow God to love you through the birth of His Son in your heart? Won’t you, who know His love, take a moment to worship apart from the hustle and bustle that seeks to distract. We are written into this love story. Sometimes we just need to read it to remind ourselves we are loved.

Grace & Peace,

Sandy
