Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, And a light unto my path.
Psalm 119:105 KJV
At the end of each year, I listen expectantly for a word from the Holy Spirit for the coming year. Why? What is the purpose of a word for the year? One word can be an anchor, a hope, a truth, a comfort, or an encouragement that reminds me of His work and presence in me. With my word in mind, I see His plan unfolding, I am more able to pay attention and can make confident decisions. One word can convey His intentions toward me.
Jesus answered, “If anyone [really] loves Me, he will keep My word (teaching); and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our dwelling place with him.
“But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you.“
John 14:23, 26 AMP
Keeping His word and having a word for the year are not equal, but one word is like an amuse-bouche, a taste of what’s to come, drawing me into a relationship with God.
My word for 2023 is fresh. In my next post I’ll go over the scriptures the Holy Spirit showed me for this word and how I saw it play out. My word for 2024 is written. I’ll go over the scriptures for that one, too.
In the meantime, if you have a word of your own, please share in the comments.
I pray you’ll have a Merry Christmas and a happy new year!
Grace & Peace,
Sandy
