Oh the things I think about! Lol! Over the past few days I’ve been watching my husband paint a nutcracker with a gold crown and a peppermint candy scepter. It reminded me of learning a tambourine pattern based on the following scripture:
You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.
Isaiah 62:3 ESV
In this scripture, God is referring to Jerusalem, His people. But does it also mean you and me? Let’s look and see. (By the way, a diadem is another word for crown or tiara.)
First thing to note is the use of the word royal. This is not just a decorative crown. The one who wears it is royalty and the crown is a symbol of the authority of a ruler.
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
1 Peter 2:9 CSB
This scripture is talking about us, believers. We have become royalty because of what Christ has done. This verse also brings up our place of nearness to God—here it says we are His possession, and in the first verse it states, twice, that we are in His hand. Our royalty comes with being adopted into the family of the One who rules over all. It is not something we earn.
As I looked for scriptures, I found there are more crowns given to God’s people.
A crown of love and mercy.
You’ve rescued me from hell and saved my life. You’ve crowned me with love and mercy.
Psalms 103:4 TPT
A crown of glory.
And when the Chief Shepherd (Christ) appears, you will receive the [conqueror’s] unfading crown of glory.
1 Peter 5:4 AMP
A crown of life.
Blessed is the one who endures trials, because when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.
James 1:12 CSB
A crown of righteousness.
Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.
2 Timothy 4:8 ESV
I want to bring up one more scripture that speaks of crowns—Revelation 4:10.
The twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying:
“You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.”
Revelation 4:10-11 NKJV
This is true worship; attributing every crown we receive to His glory, His honor and His power. I want to worship Him with this abandon.
I want to include a few more passages. When you think of royalty and crowns, do you also think of treasure and wealth?
Don’t store up treasures on earth! Moths and rust can destroy them, and thieves can break in and steal them. Instead, store up your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy them, and thieves cannot break in and steal them. Your heart will always be where your treasure is.
Matthew 6:19-21 CEV
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Hebrews 11:6 NIV
The moral of this story is God has many crowns for you. And He rewards you when you seek Him, and stores your treasures for you safely in heaven.
May this season of Thanksgiving remind you that you wear a crown of beauty as the treasure you are in the palm of His hand.
Grace & Peace,
Sandy
