I was all excited yesterday when God was showing me the concept for this post, until I understood how hard this was going to be to put into practice. But if I can, how life altering it will be. Let’s dive in.
Don’t store up treasures on earth! Moths and rust can destroy them, and thieves can break in and steal them. Instead, store up your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy them, and thieves cannot break in and steal them. Your heart will always be where your treasure is.
Matthew 6:19-21 CEV
What would life be like if I implemented this scripture?
Full disclosure—I have spent hours writing and deleting paragraphs and scriptures from this post. I can’t find the words and I keep getting drawn off on tangents. So let me jump right into the next scripture God gave me.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts higher than your thoughts.”
Isaiah 55:8-9 AMP
If all I am pursuing is earthly treasure, whether accomplishments or possessions, I am not seeing the bigger picture. God sees things from an eternal perspective. Which means my goals are too small, too finite. I have to open up my expectations, and see there are higher ways to explore.
Now to him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us.
Ephesians 3:20 CSB
This is the concept, but because we are human, this way of living baffles us. How can we expect more than we can imagine? And more importantly—How can we open ourselves up to be brave enough to ask for more of God’s vision of what we can accomplish together?
Lord, I pray that all the earthly treasures I seek will become dull in comparison to walking through this life with you. And that you will enlarge my vision to see what has heavenly value in this life and beyond.
Grace & Peace,
Sandy
