The Story of Me

I have been inspired this week by all the little nudges from the Holy Spirit through various means—newsletters, songs, scriptures, devotionals, etcetera—to take a look at ME. (Or you.) To allow his words to sink-in deeply. Shall we dive in?

1) GOD CREATED ME IN HIS IMAGE.

I’m sure you know the scripture, but you might not know this song my friend sent me today: Image of God. You can click the link to listen. The concept I want you to grasp is the part that we are God-made. People boast about things being handmade because it shows the care and love that went into making that item. His love and care goes so much further. I am proud to wear the distinction of being God-made.

2) GOD KNEW ME BEFORE I WAS BORN.

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart…”

Jeremiah 1:5a (NIV)

Before we were even a twinkle in our parents’ eyes, God had known exactly who he wanted us to be. He has had a plan for us all along.

3) GOD WROTE A BOOK ABOUT ME.

Lord, you know everything there is to know about me.

You perceive every movement of my heart and soul, and you understand my every thought before it even enters my mind.

You are so intimately aware of me, Lord. You read my heart like an open book and you know all the words I’m about to speak before I even start a sentence! You know every step I will take before my journey even begins.

You saw who you created me to be before I became me! Before I’d ever seen the light of day, the number of days you planned for me were already recorded in your book.

Psalm 139:1-3,16 (TPT)

God’s knowledge of me is all-encompassing. From beginning to end, my thoughts, my words, my motivation are all right there in the story of my life. I can’t surprise him and I can’t disappoint him.

4) GOD’S WORKS ARE WONDERFUL, THAT INCLUDES ME.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Psalm 139:14 (NIV)

This one came through my new diet plan’s newsletter. To say, “I am wonderful,” sounds prideful. And pride is a sin. Right? But, to praise God, because God don’t make no junk (as the saying goes,) is recognizing the beauty of his creation. You are wonderful. I am wonderful. Why? Because We are God-made.

5) GOD DELIGHTS IN ME.

“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”

Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)

There are a couple of verses about God delighting in us and a couple about him singing over us. I love these verses. Before getting to know him, I imagined a God ready to judge my life and tell me how disappointed he was that I had made so many bad decisions and couldn’t get my life together. How naive I was. Isn’t that just human nature? Thinking that we have to work to find favor with God.

There was a season in my life where every prophetic word over me expressed that God was delighted in me or addressed me as “My Delight.” As much as it was hard for me to accept, it made my heart soar.

I have so many more verses that come to mind. I might have to continue this thought next week. I hope you allow all God’s thoughts toward you to sink-in today.

Grace & Peace,

Sandy
