Today I promised to show you ways to align your will to God’s will. The reason we want to do this is because that is the best frame of mind and heart to have to find answers.
The first and most important thing we can do is to love God. Jesus tells us this is the greatest commandment. We are to love him, heart, mind, and soul. Look at this passage of scripture:
No eye has ever seen and no ear has ever heard and it has never occurred to the human heart
All the things God prepared for those who love Him.
1 Corinthians 2:9 (VOICE)
God is holding in reserve unimaginable things for us. Things beyond our hopes and dreams. When we realize he loved us first, loving him will be easy.
The next scripture talks of abiding in Jesus. Another word would be dwell in, or make your home in. I think, looking at the metaphor of the vine and the branch, it goes deeper. It’s more like become a part of Jesus.
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. 12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
John 15:4,7,10,12 (ESV)
When we are part of who Jesus is and what he is doing, he says we can ask for what we want. Further in the passage he clarifies what he is doing, “love one another as I have loved you.”
Beyond loving him and abiding in him, he wants us to delight in him.
Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4 (ESV)
Did you get that? Amazing! He wants to give us what makes our heart happy.
Let’s look at the next way we can align with him.
In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, And He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way].
Proverbs 3:6 (AMP)
God’s answers to our prayers are his answers, not ours. We shouldn’t be taking credit for what he does. When we figure that out, giving credit where credit is due, his power in our life increases.
Next up, we need to be doers; listening and responding.
Don’t just listen to the Word of Truth and not respond to it, for that is the essence of self-deception. So always let his Word become like poetry written and fulfilled by your life!
But those who set their gaze deeply into the perfecting law of liberty are fascinated by and respond to the truth they hear and are strengthened by it—they experience God’s blessing in all that they do!
James 1:22,25 (TPT)
When we act on his word, we strengthen our faith. It has a domino effect leading to God’s blessings.
Finally, I want to leave you with this thought:
God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.
Glory to God in the church! Glory to God in the Messiah, in Jesus! Glory down all the generations! Glory through all millennia! Oh, yes!
Ephesians 3:20-21 (MSG)
