By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.
2 Peter 1:3-4 (NLT)
Often times we consider gifts of God as talents. We say someone is a gifted singer or a gifted artist. That may be true, but a gift is something that is given, and God’s gifts are many.
In this scripture, promises are given, no talent required. Everyone who knows God receives them. What is the purpose of this gift? How is it a good and perfect gift? His promises give us what we need to live in partnership with God. As we live in partnership with him, we become more like him. That is my desire. How about you?
Lord,
I have received your gift of promises.
Help me discover everything inside.
Help me not only to open the gift,
But to utilize its contents,
So I may share in your divine nature
And escape the corruption in this world.
Amen
