“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”

John 14:27 (NLT)

This is a well known verse, but let’s take a deeper look. I often find myself not-at-peace. My worries and fears come to create a sense of chaos and overwhelm. Deadlines and demands leave me feeling rushed and lacking. It’s in these times Jesus’ gift of peace is exactly good and perfect. He made sure we knew his gift of peace doesn’t depend on the world around us, and is available 24-7. Could this be what makes believers different in the trenches of this life? Having our hearts and minds at peace when our life is anything but peaceful?

Lord Jesus,

When my eyes are on the troubles of this world,
And my peace is consumed,
Awaken me to your gift of peace.
Settle me into the serenity of your presence.
