This week at Bible study our teacher shared her life verses and asked us to come prepared to share ours at our next meeting. Honestly I haven’t thought about mine for years. I know it was about 40 years ago when I rededicated my life to following Christ and was baptized in the Holy Spirit. It was at that time that the scriptures came alive to me and two in particular that the Spirit quickened in my spirit.
Both are in the book of Ephesians, which I find funny that my verse for this year is also from Ephesians. Let’s look:
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)
This first verse actually inspired me to write a song. The song is titled, Tapestry, and the chorus declares, “I am God’s work of art. I am! I am!” It reminds me that God created me uniquely and I am a beautiful creation. I don’t look like anyone else and my life is unique to me as well. The plans he has for me are described as good things or good works. This verse lifts me up and fills me with contentment, knowing I am his.
This next verse helps direct me.
Speak to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, [offering praise by] singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord.
Ephesians 5:19 (AMP)
This has been my calling. For many years it has been serving the church through being on worship team. Over four decades and three denominations, I have felt full of joy as I worship God. Now, I am finding this flows into my writing, too. I weave my praise into the words and stories I write. When what you do comes from a heart of praise to the Lord, there is fullness of joy that cannot be contained. And isn’t it better to let our words to those around us be words of love that reflect our heart of worship? I’m not perfect in that, but that’s my goal.
So if you take my two life verses and add in my year verse (Eph. 3:20) I am a work of art, a worshipper, and wholly supplied and supported. That is a recipe for success because God don’t make no junk. Lol.
Do you have a life verse? I’d love for you to share it.
Grace & Peace,
Sandy
