Now that December is upon us, I’d like to look deeper into the birth of Jesus and why he came in the way he did. Today we’ll look at three scriptures.
For to us a Child shall be born, to us a Son shall be given; And the government shall be upon His shoulder, And His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. There shall be no end to the increase of His government and of peace, [He shall rule] on the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From that time forward and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this.
Isaiah 9:6-7 AMP
In this verse we learn four important facts: he would be born, he would be God, he would come from David’s line, and he would have eternal rule. These are truths that define the Messiah. No man born solely of flesh and blood could ever fulfill this prophecy. That brings us to the next scripture.
Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
Isaiah 7:14 NKJV
In this verse we learn the Messiah would be born of a virgin. Why is that important? Jesus, in order to fulfill prophecy, was to be fully God and fully man.
For in Him all the fullness of Deity (the Godhead) dwells in bodily form [completely expressing the divine essence of God].
Colossians 2:9 AMP
The Messiah wouldn’t appear on earth in a spiritual form, but purposefully as a baby, born to a human mother.
We will study further into the birth of Christ in the next few weeks, in order to glorify Jesus in our hearts and minds, while restoring our reason to celebrate Christmas.
Wishing you God’s blessings.
Grace & Peace,
Sandy
