In the realm of writing, WIP is a common term used when asking another writer what they are working on. But, of course, it isn’t limited to writing. We Christians also use this phrase to rightly explain why we aren’t perfect. I’m in the midst of both kinds of WIPs, so when one of my go-to scriptures came up in my Bible reading today, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. It also fits perfectly into my recent posts on not judging others, and the old and new me.
Accept other believers who are weak in faith, and don’t argue with them about what they think is right or wrong. For instance, one person believes it’s all right to eat anything. But another believer with a sensitive conscience will eat only vegetables. Those who feel free to eat anything must not look down on those who don’t. And those who don’t eat certain foods must not condemn those who do, for God has accepted them. Who are you to condemn someone else’s servants? Their own master will judge whether they stand or fall. And with the Lord’s help, they will stand and receive his approval.
Romans 14:1-4 NLT
There is still conflict about eating or not eating certain foods, but what about other things? There are so many issues we can find to disagree on, but it’s clear in this passage that we aren’t to be judging each other’s beliefs. I lean heavily on the last sentence, “And he [who serves the Master—the Lord] will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.” (From the Amplified Bible.)
On earth we will have many things that are God’s WIP. Just as I wouldn’t want you to judge my book by the first draft, God doesn’t want us to judge His work in others, or even ourselves, until the final draft when all the edits are complete.
One last scripture:
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:1-2 NKJV
We don’t look at others, we look to Jesus. He began our story and He will finish our story.
Grace & Peace,
Sandy
