Entering into this moment, would you stop and listen? I Love Your Presence – Austin Johnson.
When life is full and my mind fills with anxious thoughts, I know I need a quiet moment with God. I wanted to name this post – Can I Get a Little Quiet Around Here! – but that felt jarring. It was when I found the picture above that a sense of calm settled me into the simplicity of Quiet.
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28 NLT
When we are stuck in our heads with our long To Do list, it’s time to take a moment and be still. It takes us a moment to let go, but when we bring our concerns to God, he is faithful to settle our minds.
Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.
Philippians 4:6-7 MSG
But what if we ignore God’s pull to come to the quiet?
God has told his people, “Here is a place of rest; let the weary rest here. This is a place of quiet rest.” But they would not listen. So the Lord will spell out his message for them again, one line at a time, one line at a time, a little here, and a little there, so that they will stumble and fall. They will be injured, trapped, and captured.
Isaiah 28:12-13 NLT
You’ve probably experienced learning things the hard way. That’s not God’s first choice. His peace is present when we are present with him.
Only God gives inward peace, and I depend on him. God alone is the mighty rock that keeps me safe, and he is the fortress where I feel secure.
Psalms 62:5-6 CEV
If you’ve been stumbling lately, could it be time to find that quiet space where God can show up?
Lord, I pray for that quiet stillness to settle in my soul. Not just for this moment, but for every moment. May I come to experience what it means that you are my rock and my fortress.
Grace & Peace,
Sandy
