So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.
Galatians 6:9 NLT
I hate to admit it, but there have been many times in my life when I get to a road block or a challenge on whatever new venture I’m pursuing, and instead of pressing through or working things out, I think: I’m not good enough, I should just quit.
It seems my poor ego needs constant praise and encouragement. So when I didn’t make the next round of authors in a contest I entered, my first response was my default response. It didn’t matter all the praise I received from family, friends, or even the good critiques from professionals, I felt like a failure.
It just reminds me I shouldn’t act on my feelings. They aren’t reliable advisors. And people have different opinions. I think about watching shows like The Voice, I don’t always agree with who wins the competition. Why? Because I like a different kind of music or a different tone of voice. Or any number of nuanced reasons.
My efforts can’t be based on people’s opinions or even my own. It is before God I owe an account. His opinion matters.
That doesn’t mean we don’t take advice or criticism. It means whatever we hear we take to the Lord.
But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.
2 Chronicles 15:7 NIV
