Busyness Anxiety

Finding balance is tricky for me. If I don’t make plans to be with people I fall into depression, but if I have a lot on my calendar I start feeling anxious. This November has me leaning over into busyness and it’s not going to let up until after Christmas. Every item I add to my calendar is something I want to do, and there are plenty of opportunities to add to my schedule that I don’t want to miss. So what’s a girl to do?

I could say yes to everything that I have an opening for. I could say, “Let me pray about it.” Or I could make the excuse that I’m just too busy. Option number one is my go-to response. I’m sure you’ve heard of FOMO, the fear of missing out. That’s me. But I also have FONT, the fear of new things, which will have me saying no if I can’t get a ride with someone I know.

Between the two you’d think I’d find balance. But that isn’t the case.

The middle option seems the best way to go, but I find people who say, “Let me pray about it.” sound pompous? So maybe pray about it in my prayer closet and let the Lord help me find balance? Yep. That sounds about right.

Let’s take a look at some helpful scriptures.

People might make many plans, but what the Lord says is what will happen.
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭19‬:‭21‬ ‭ERV‬‬

Oooh! Look at this one —

Don’t be pulled in different directions or worried about a thing. Be saturated in prayer throughout each day, offering your faith-filled requests before God with overflowing gratitude. Tell him every detail of your life, then God’s wonderful peace that transcends human understanding, will guard your heart and mind through Jesus Christ.
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭TPT‬‬

And here is one that promotes our accountability —

Teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts.
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭90‬:‭12‬ ‭CSB‬‬

I don’t think God wants us to fill up our calendar with so many things that we feel anxious and can’t enjoy what we’re doing or value what He is doing through us.

Conduct yourself with wisdom in your interactions with outsiders (non-believers), make the most of each opportunity [treating it as something precious]. Let your speech at all times be gracious and pleasant, seasoned with salt, so that you will know how to answer each one [who questions you].
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭4‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭AMP‬‬

One more personal hack — Write everything down that you commit to, so that it’s not taking up space in your thoughts making you worry you’ll forget something. Creating a visual reminder will help you see where you can rest, and give you a sense of relief as you cross events off your list as you progress through the month.

Grace & Peace,

Sandy

    1. Part of my problem is being involved in Sweet Adelines and having at least two performances each weekend in December, then add everything else. Balance is pretty much out the window. Thanks for your like and comment.
